TBR Pile --- Or the beast that will never be defeated

Thursday, April 12, 2012
There was a discussion the other day on Twitter about Game of Thrones that went something like this, "OMG ROBB STARK IS SO SEXY! AND SO IS JON SNOW!"

Perhaps I am exaggerating (but not by much). The conversation morphed into a discussion about to-be-read piles and how writer/readers are basically crack addicts, but instead of buying drugs from a shady dude on a street corner, they buy books.

I'm okay with being a crack book addict. If I'm going to have any kind of shopping problem, or addiction, I'd rather it be books. Because for every book I buy (whether I read it or not) helps fund a writer's career (this is what I tell myself when I spend another $50 on books when I just spent $50 on books the month before and only read one from the pile).

So here, without further preamble, is my TBR pile.

I seriously cannot wait to read every single one of these books. I'm particularly looking forward to The Night Circus, I Hunt Killers, and Awkward.

And here's my bookshelf with the holes where the TBR pile usually hangs out.

I tend to pack away the books I've read, only because there are four of us living in a really, really tiny house, but someday I will have a library, and ALL of my books will be on display. The day will come damnit.

The others included in this TBR pile challenge listed what they've read so far this year and I am embarrassed---so embarrassed---to admit I've only read five books so far this year. *hangs head in shame*

So here are the books I've read:

Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff

Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer Smith

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord by Sarah Maas

And I also read an awesome unpubbed manuscript by my good friend Danielle Ellison

I'm currently reading:

Storm by Brigid Kemmerer and False Memory by Dan Krokos

Bot Wars is due tomorrow, so I plan to finish both books in the next few days and then my total read so far this year will be a whopping seven!

Check out the other TBR Pile posts:

(Side note: when I started piling up the books on my desk to take a picture of my TBR pile, my husband said, "You haven't read any of these books?! Why do you keep buying books then?" And I said, "Let's pretend you never saw this pile.")

  1. Love your piles! Especially those six identical books on the top of your shelf....

You must read JELLICOE ROAD. It is possibly my favorite book ever.

    1. I keep hearing that about JELLICOE ROAD. It was the whole reason I finally bought it. I plan to read it this year, for sure. Soon, I hope!

And I like seeing those 6 identical books on top of the shelf, too. :D I don't want to part with them!

  2. Oh, man -- I LOVE this. Books are the perfect crack. I really want to read BEAUTY QUEENS; I still need to get a hold of a copy. I have heard so many good things about THE NIGHT CIRCUS -- and I will read anything Cassie Clare writes, ever. I'm very much looking forward to diving into CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS, but I need to check out CLOCKWORKS.

Great pile!!! (Out of context, that's probably a odd thing to say, but still. *grin*)

    1. *waggles eyebrows* You can totally admire my pile, gurrl.

At risk of revealing how lame I am, I have never read a single Cassie Clare book. But I will remedy that this year!

    2. hehe, how you doin'? (My best Joey Tribbiani impersonation, right there.)

Cassie Clare is very smart, very fun, and her writing gives me a case of Word Envy. :-)

  3. I think if you were to ever be an addict of some sorts in life, book buying would obviously be the best choice to go with :) And yay for Sweetly, Vixen, and What Happened To Goodbye!!

  4. Ahh, your TBR pile is as scary as mine! I know what you mean about book-buying being an addiction! There are books a couple years old that I'm still dying to read! I can't wait for you to read THE NIGHT CIRCUS. It is so, SO good!! And I actually liked AWKWARD a lot more than I thought I would! I dream of one day having a library as well!! Ahhh, I'm sooooooooooo excited to read STORMDANCER and drooling that you read it early! I'm also about to read the Sarah J. Maas novellas for Fairy Tale Fortnight and am hoping Bloomsbury approves me for the actual novel on NetGalley! I still have to read UNDER THE NEVER SKY and am soooooo excited for STORM. Beyond excited!! I was just approved for FALSE MEMORY, too! Looking at your pile...the cover for EVERNEATH is lovelier than the insides. It was all right. I really loved CINDER and THE PLEDGE and MARA DYER. I'm about to read SCORPIO RACES for book club. I'm also reading SWEETLY for Fairy Tale Fortnight. I received AU REVOIR, CRAZY EUROPEAN CHICK in the mail just today....and started it. *cough* THE MOCKINGBIRDS is *really* good. Really, really good! I'm dying to read THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, but want to read all is other novels first!

I love all the copies of ALTERED up on your shelf. Hoping this means the cover reveal is coming soon!!!!!!! I added this to GR on June 11th, and to have it finally be soooooo close!! Ahh!

    Hot boys...you...Brigid...ee!

    1. I keep hearing The Night Circus was amazing! I'm looking forward to it. And you should totally read UNDER THE NEVER SKY! It was soooo good.

I hope I get to reveal a more official cover for ALTERED soon! *crossing fingers* :D

  5. OMG, your husband and my husband should talk. He gets the emails from Amazon every time I buy something on my Kindle, and I always get the, "Didn't you JUST buy a book...?" I just tell him that the email must have duped. :-P

    1. Ohhh, those emails sound dangerous. Thankfully, I'm the one set up on the Kindle, so husband doesn't have to know about the e-books in my TBR pile!

  6. Lol, yep, my tbr pile has become INSANE lately. My only saving grace is that I moved to Minneapolis and they have this crazy awesome city library system where I request books and get them within a few weeks after they publish. And then the library books sit on my shelf, or in haphazard piles around my desk, and I probably actually read only 1 out of every 5 I check out lately. Ah well, we'll chalk it up to it being our debut year when everything is bananas ;)

    1. I used to do the same thing with library books! I'd check out an armful and then read maybe one, or two. I've been buying a lot more books lately, only because I'm so slow at reading. If I wait to check something out of the library, by the time I'm ready, I've forgotten what released six months ago!

    2. I totally do this too with the library (grad student so my book budget is very very small.) Last time I picked up err... 15 books I had on hold (I had just moved and hadn't been able to check anything out except e-books for an entire week!) the librarian was all "You're not going to have time to read all of these." I'm determined to (mostly) prove her wrong (and hey, I can renew online!)

Also I laughed when I saw your "Let's pretend you never saw this pile" Jennifer. It was like a "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" for books. Your book is on my TBR pile right now so I'll have to bump it to the top!
